Chlorops oryzae Matsumura, 1915 - (rice stem maggot)
This species of frit fly is found in eastern Asia, where it is an important pest of rice. The fly maggot feeds on the stems, but also on other parts of the plant like the young developing leaves and the developing panicles.
In Japan, there are 2 or 3 generations per year and the adults of the last generation lay eggs on grasses where the young larvae overwinter (Takeda & Nagata, 1997).
