Cheravirus avii

Assigned virus:
cherry rasp leaf virus (CRLV)

Cheravirus avii is the type species of the genus Cheravirus. Cherry rasp leaf virus is mainly found in North America and is of quarantine concern in Europe and other regions, infecting cherry, peach and apple trees. CRLV has been also reported from potatoes (Thompson et al., 2004). On cherry, peach and apple it causes leaf deformations, stunting and yield reductions. On apple it also causes 'flat apple'.

The genome consists of 2 single-stranded, positive-sensed RNA molecules, RNA-1 and RNA-2. RNA-1 has around 7000 nt and a single ORF (James & Upton, 2005). RNA-2 contains around 3300 nt.
