Ceroplastes Gray, 1828 - (wax scales)
This genus of soft scales contains more than 150 species, characterized by the thick wax covers that are secreted by the adult females. The genus is widely distributed and various species have been accidentally introduced into other countries. The scales are often polyphagous and a number of species are important pests of crops like the pink wax scale, Ceroplastes rubens, or the Florida wax scale, Ceroplastes floridensis.
