Cercospora medicaginis Ellis & Everh. 1891

This fungus is widely distributed and causes summer black stem and leaf spot of alfalfa, resulting in decline of the plants. The symptoms include small brown spot on both leaf surfaces which enlarge to reddish-brown lesions. During heavy infestations, usually associated with high temperatures and a humid environment, infected leaves die and drop.
