Celatoria compressa (parasitoid) (Wulp, 1890)
This tachinid fly is found in southern North America where it parasitises adult beetles from the subtribe Diabroticina like species of the genera Diabrotica and Acalymma. It is common in Mexico. Compared to other Celatoria species, it has a relatively broad host range. Female flies lay their eggs directly into the host beetle, using their ovipositor. These eggs contain fully-developed first instar larvae. C. compressa has been studied as a possible candidate for the classical biological control of Diabrotica virgifera in Europe (e.g. see Zhang et al., 2004).
