Bursaphelenchus vallesianus Braasch et al., 2004
The nematode has been associated with wilting and declining pines in Europe and neighbouring regions. Artificial inoculation of pines with this nematode can cause pine wilt symptoms, similar to those appearing after infections by Bursaphelenchus xylophilus. The overall body length of males and females is about 1 mm, the stylet around 13 µm for both sexes, and the tail length approximately 20-30 µm. The tail of females is conical. The species is related to Bursaphelenchus sexdentati.
