Betabaculovirus spofrugiperdae (entomopathogen)
Assigned virus:
• Spodoptera frugiperda granulovirus (SpfrGV)
The Spodoptera frugiperda granulovirus infects the armyworm Spodoptera frugiperda. Sequencing of an isolate of SpfrGV from Colombia showed the virus to have a size of 140,913 bp, encoding 146 putative ORFs (Cuartas et al., 2015). The genome includes a number of virulence factors like several genes encoding chitinase and enhancin proteins. Adding 2.5% of SpfrGV to a preparation of the Spodoptera frugiperda multiple nucleopolyhedrovirus can increase the virulence of the nucleopolyhedrovirus significantly (Cuartas-Otálora et al., 2019).
