Barley yellow mosaic virus 2 (BaYMV-2)

This virus is closely related to Barley yellow mosaic virus, also called BaYMV-1. Unlike BaYMV-1, it can infect barley cultivars with the rym4 resistance gene. Cultivars with the rym4 gene have been extensively planted in Europe beginning around 1990 and this has apparently contributed to increases in the prevalence of BaYMV-2 and a decrease of BaYMV-1 (Rolland et al., 2017). Like BaYMV-1, BaYMV-2 is transmitted through the roots by the soil-borne fungus Polymyxa graminis.
