Barley yellow dwarf virus GAV (BYDV-GAV)

This virus is part of the complex of Barley yellow dwarf viruses (BYDVs). It is mainly transmitted by the cereal aphids Schizaphis graminum and Sitobion avenae (Du et al., 2007). In China, BYDV-GAV is common on wheat and regarded as an important cereal virus. Infections result in yield losses with infected plants showing the typical symptoms for yellow dwarf viruses like leaf chlorosis and stunting. It has not been assigned to a family and genus and is here tentatively placed under the family Tombusviridae.
