Bandicota Gray, 1873 - (bandicoot rats)
The genus contains 3 species of large rat-like rodents that are found in southern parts of Asia. They can reach a body length of 30 cm and have a tail nearly as long. B. indica and B. bengalensis are common around human settlements and crop field, causing significant damage to grain and other crops, e.g. to rice fields. They create burrows in the ground where they store grain and are also called mole-rats.
