Baccharis L.
This genus of composite plants is found mainly in South and Central America. It contains around 400 species. Some of them have been planted outside the Americas as ornamentals and several are regarded as undesirable weeds. For example, Baccharis halimifolia is invasive outside the Americas. It has naturalized in Europe and Australia, where it can establish woody monospecific stands, destroying the ecology of the area.
