Excised shoot assay to determine the pathogenicity of root-rotting Phytophthora species on kiwifruit
Australasian Plant Pathology 20 (4), 146-148
Abstract: Seven Phytophthora spp. showed varying abilities to colonize excised shoot segments of kiwifruit (cv. Hayward), indicating differences in their relative pathogenicity: P. cryptogea and P. cinnamomi were highly virulent; P. citricola, P. gonapodyides, P. sterile A and P. sterile B were moderately to weakly pathogenic; and P. megasperma was not pathogenic. These results agreed with the pattern of virulence previously reported for infection of the root system and it is suggested that the shoot assay may provide a quick, reliable means of determining the pathogenicity of Phytophthora species on kiwifruit.
