Argyrotaenia Stephens, 1852 - (small grape moths)

This genus of tortrix moths contains more than 50 species which are mainly found in the Americas and in Europe. Several species infest crops and some of these are polyphagous. The wingspan of the adult moths is around 15-25 mm.

The pest species attack, for example, grapevines (like Argyrotaenia sphaleropa) or fruit trees (like Argyrotaenia velutinana on apple). The larvae feed on the leaves directly, protected by silk webs or roll and fold the leaves. Shoots, buds or developing fruits can be also attacked.

Type species: Argyrotaenia ljungiana
