Argas persicus (Oken) - (fowl tick)

This soft tick is widely ditributed and parasitises chicken and birds in tropical and subtropical regions. It may occasionally bite humans. The larval stages produce a toxin which can paralyze chicken. The tick transmits several disease agents like Borrelia anserina, Aegyptionella pullorum and the Slovakia virus.
