This mosquito is found in North America up to southern parts of Canada. It bites humans as well as a variety of other mammals and is mainly active during dawn or dusk. It is considered a possible malaria vector and has been found to occasionally carry Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum. A. walkeri breeds in swamps and marshes with the eggs being the overwintering stage.
