Anopheles tenebrosus Dönitz, 1902
This mosquito is found in eastern and southern Africa, as well as in Egypt and the Near East. It can be common in some areas and has been reported as biting mainly lifestock (e.g. see Habtewold et al., 2004). Some positive tests for Plasmodium falciparum have been reported (Aranda et al., 2005).
An. tenebrosus breeds in swamps, ponds and ditches and can tolerate brakish water.
