Anopheles rangeli Gabaldon, Cova Garcia & Lopez, 1940

This mosquito is found in South America and is common in northern parts like the Amazon Basin, Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador. It is highly anthropophilic, but also feeds on cattle, horses and other domestic animals. A. rangeli can transmit malaria (e.g. Quiñones et al. 2006). It breeds mainly in temporary fresh water pools.

Identification keys have been published in the following three articles: 1) for adult males, 2) for fourth-instar larvae and 3) for adult females.
