Anopheles pharoensis Theobald, 1901
This mosquito is widespread in Africa and can be locally abundant. It is regarded as a vector of malaria, both Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax. A. pharoensis breeds in various water accumulations like swamps, lakes, rice fields, ditches, as well as rain pools and river edges (Getachew et al., 2020). It is common around houses and will bite humans during the night. However, it prefers domestic animals.
