Anopheles nuneztovari Gabaldón, 1940
This mosquito has been mainly recorded from northern parts of South America. It is anthropophilic and is regarded as a malaria vector (e.g. see Dusfour et al., 2012), biting early in the morning as well as during dusk-nighttime. Various domestic animals and other mammals are also sources of blood-meals (e.g. Zimmerman et al., 2006).
A. nuneztovari breeds in marshes, ponds and lakes, as well as in temporary pools. It has been recorded both from areas around houses as well as from forests. Taxonomically, it is closely related to Anopheles goeldii and both have been previously considered to be the same species.
An identification key for adult males is given in Sallum et al. (2020).
