The mosquito is found in tropical parts of Asia and is a suspected vector of malaria (Plasmodium vivax and P. falciparum) as well as Wuchereria bancrofti. It breeds in larger water bodies like canals, large pools or rice fields. In Sri Lanka, it has been recorded to feed on domestic animals.
