Anopheles melanoon Hackett, 1934
This mosquito is found in parts of Europe and surrounding regions. It mainly bites larger mammals like horses and bovines, but may also bite humans occasionally and is regarded as a potential malaria vector. As breeding sites, mainly irrigated fields like paddies have been reported. An. melanoon is similar to Anopheles atroparvus and can be recognized by its uniformly black legs.
