Anopheles marajoara Galvao & Damasceno, 1942

The mosquito is found in northern parts of South America. In some areas it can be frequently collected in human landing catches, but blood meals from other domestic animals have been also recorded (e.g. Zimmerman et al., 2006). A large portion of females collected in the field have been shown to contain malaria parasites and the species is regarded as a malaria vector.

An identification key for adult males is given in Sallum et al. (2020).
