Anopheles freeborni Aitken, 1939
This mosquito is found in western North America from California to south-western Canada. It bites humans at dusk and during the night but prefers to feed on mammals like cattle or rabbits. A. freeborni is regarded as a malaria vector in some areas. It breeds in pools and rice fields. See also Anopheles hermsi which is morphologically indistinguishable from this species.
