Anopheles costai Fonseca & Silva Ramos, 1939

This mosquito is found in different parts of South and Central America from Argentina to Mexico. It is suspected to be able to transmit malaria. In studies where species have been identified based on the morphology of adult females, A. costai has apparently been frequently misidentified as A. mediopunctatus. Both species differ only in the morphology of the larvae and pupae, the structure of the male genitalia, as well as the surface of the eggs.

An identification key for adult males is given in Sallum et al. (2020).
