Anopheles cinereus Theobald, 1901
This mosquito is found in northern and eastern parts of Africa, but has been also reported from neighbouring regions. The distribution includes arid areas like desert oases. It bites humans and is regarded as a malaria vector, having been found to be associated with a malaria outbreak in Morocco and to carry Plasmodium sporozoites. A. cinereus can be common in some areas and prefers clean water for breeding (e.g. see Animut et al., 2012).
