Anagallis arvensis (weed) L. - (scarlet pimpernel)

This weed has an almost world-wide distribution and is regarded as an important agricultural weed, affecting crops like cereals, grapevine, potatoes or sunflowers. It germinates early in the season and is often an aggressive invader of field crops or lawns. However, due to its short height (typically up to 20 cm), competition with taller crops is limited. A. arvensis grows in warm, even tropical areas, but is more common in temperate regions, preferring moist conditions.
