Alstroemeria mosaic virus (AlMV)

This virus was first described from the United Kingdom and infects Alstroemeria species including ornamental cultivars. The symptoms include stunting with less flowers being produced as well as chlorotic streaks parallel to the leaf midribs.

Like other potyviruses, AlMV has flexuous filamentous particles (680–900 nm) that encapsidate a non-segmented polyadenylated single-stranded RNA genome with around 9,000 nt. It is transmitted by aphids.
