Alisma plantago-aquatica (weed) L. - (common waterplantain)

This plant is widely distributed and grows in shallow water, affecting rice crops in some countries. Some populations have developed resistance to herbicides (e.g. see Figueroa et al., 2008).

A. plantago-aquatica grows up to a height of up to 1 m. The lanceolate leaves have long stems that emerge from a bulbous base. The flowers are small (~ 1 cm in diameter), with 3 white petals.
