Aedes vittatus (Bigot)

This mosquito is widely distributed in Africa, southern Asia and south-western Europe. It bites humans and also feeds on domestic animals and other mammals. It has been reported to be able to transmit a variety of virus diseases, including the dengue, chikungunya and zika viruses.

A. vittatus breeds in a variety of small water accumulations like rock pools, tree holes and containers. Eggs are resistant to desiccation and are laid above the water. Development starts during the rainy season.
