Aedes luteocephalus (Newstead, 1907)

This mosquito is found in Sub-Saharan Africa, mainly in West Africa. It is a vector or suspected vector of arboviruses, for example, it can transmit the chikungunya virus (see Richman et al., 2018), or the dengue virus (Gaye et al., 2019). A. luteocephalus is mainly a forest-dwelling mosquito, biting primates. However, it can also breed in containers and tires around houses and bite humans. It is regarded as an important vector, because it maintains the above viruses in the forest environment and transmits them to humans.
