Aedes epactius Dyar & Knab, 1908
This mosquito is found in southern and central parts of North America, where it breeds mainly in rock pools, small depression in stone that fill temporarily with rain water. Other breeding sites include ground pools, artificial containers, tree holes, and water-holding leaves.
A. epactius females apparently feed on mammals, but little is known about their hosts. It has been reported to carry the Zika virus in Mexico (Correa-Morales et al., 2019) and has been shown to be able to transmit other diseases experimentally, like the Jamestown Canyon virus.
