Aedes cataphylla Dyar, 1916

This mosquito is found in mountainous areas of north-western North America, as well as in parts of northern and central Europe and northern Asia. It breeds in temporary pools, created by melting snow or floodwater, especially those containing vegetation. It bites humans and other mammals and can be a nuisance pest in some mountain areas of the western U.S. In general, it is not regarded as a disease vector, although the Jamestown Canyon virus has been found in one sample (Campbell et al., 1991).
