Adelphocoris Reuter, 1896

This genus of plant bugs is widely distributed and includes around 50 species. They are often polyphagous and attack the buds and developing fruits of crops like cotton or alfalfa, causing yield losses. In some countries, the bugs have become more prominent after the adoption of Bt crops (Pan et al., 2014). Apart from plants, there are also reports of the bugs feeding on other insects. For example, the alfalfa plant bug is mainly a pest of alfalfa and other legumes. However, it has been also reported as a predator of aphids (Pons et al., 2005).

The species of this genus are large and elongated mirids with long antennae and legs. The genus is characterised by the morphology of the hemelytra and the male genitalia.
