Betabaculovirus myunipunctae (entomopathogen)

The Pseudaletia unipuncta granulovirus has been described from the American armyworm, Mythimna unipuncta (previously Pseudaletia unipuncta), based on a Hawaiian isolate (PsunGV-H). A second betabaculovirus has been described from the same insect and is now named Mythimna unipuncta granulovirus (Betabaculovirus altermyunipunctae) with the type strain MyunGV#8. It differs from PsunGV in size of the occlusion bodies and the DNA structure (Harrison et al., 2017).
PsunGV can infect several species from the genus Mythimna. Its genome has been sequenced (Li et al., 2021) and found to contain 176,677 bp, with 183 open reading frames. It is most similar to the Trichoplusia ni granulovirus (Betabaculovirus trini).
The names Mythimna unipuncta granulovirus A and B have been also used for Pseudaletia unipuncta granulovirus and Mythimna unipuncta granulovirus respectively.
