Betabaculovirus trini (entomopathogen)
Assigned virus:
• Trichoplusia ni granulovirus (TnGV)
The Trichoplusia ni granulovirus infects the cabbage looper, Trichoplusia ni. It has a large genome with 175,360 bp and 180 ORFs. Among others, it contains the enhancin gene, which has been used to protect rice from lepidopterous insect pests (e.g. Mori et al., 2006). Enhancin can also result in higher virulence, if combined with other entomopathogenic viruses (e.g. Del Rincón-Castro & Ibarra, 2005).
