Mythimna unipuncta (Haworth, 1809) - (American armyworm)

The moth is widely distributed in the Americas and is also found in southern Europe as well as in parts of Africa and Asia. The caterpillars attack the leaves and stems of crops, preferring gramineous plants like maize, sorghum, millet, oats, rice or grasses, but may also feed on alfalfa, clover, flax or rape. The populations may reach high levels resulting in defoliation of the crop.
