Amaranthus spinosus (weed) L. - (spiny amaranth)

This species is sometimes eaten, but more important as an invasive weed in several tropical and subtropical regions. For example, it was first recorded from southern China around 1930 and has become a serious weed of several field crops like cereals or legumes. In pastures it is avoided by livestock because of its long spines.
