Diptera (weed bioagents)

The order of Diptera contains various species which are specialized on certain weeds and are considered important biological control agents. Some of these have been deliberately introduced into countries to help suppress invasive plants, for example the knapweed seed head fly, Urophora quadrifasciata, or the goldenrod ball gallmaker, Eurosta solidaginis, both Tephritidae.
