Psyttalia Walker, 1860
This genus of wasps contains around 80 species of fruit fly parasitoids. Many species are native to tropical parts of Africa and Asia but some are also found in the palearctic region. They are not native in the Americas. Various species have been introduced into other regions as part of classical biological control programs directed at pest fruit flies.
The wasps are solitary koinobiont endoparasitoids. They parasitize the fruit fly larvae (rarely the eggs), usually inside the fruits, and typically emerge from the pupae. The species are related to those of the genus Opius.
