Solidago canadensis (weed) L. - (Canada goldenrod)

The plant is a perennial weed, native to North America, which has been introduced into various regions like Europe and eastern Asia. It can form dense stands in disturbed habitats, but usually does not invade crops and is mainly considered a threat to biodiversity. Ploughing or mowing just before flowering is often sufficient to control infestations.

The plant can grow to a height of more than 2 m. The stem is initially unbranched until inflorescences are produced. The leaves are 10-15 cm long, lance-shaped and toothed along the anterior edges. The flowering branches are covered by masses of tiny yellow flowers arranged in clusters. The seeds are wind-borne, about 1 mm long with a pappus.
