Solidago L. - (goldenrods)

The genus includes around 100 species of herbaceous plants. Most are native to North America and several species are invasive and weedy in other regions. Important weeds are, for example, Solidago canadensis and Solidago gigantea. The species spread via wind-dispersed seeds and by regrowth from rhizomes.

Some species can grow to a height of several metres. Typically, the stem is unbranched except for the infloresence and the leaves are ovate to elliptic. Most species have inflorescences with bright yellow flowers.
