Phlebotomus simici Nitzulescu, 1931
This sand fly is found in the eastern Mediterranean region and is one of the more abundant species in some areas. It has been reported to feed mainly on humans and is regarded as a potential vector of leishmaniasis (Chaskopoulou et al., 2016). P. simici is morphologically very similar to Phlebotomus brevis (Perrotey et al., 2000).
