Pseudocercospora angolensis (T. Carvalho & O. Mendes 1953) Crous & U. Braun 2003 - (Pseudocercospora fruit and leaf spot of citrus)
This fungus causing an important citrus disease throughout Africa. The symptoms consist of brown leaf spots with darker margins and a light halo. The fruits have dark or corky lesions and large cracks, making them unsuitable for consumption or marketing. During outbreak conditions, the disease incidence might reach 90% and yield losses can exceed 50%.
The conidia are produced singly or in short chains of 2 to 6 spores. They are hyaline to pale brown, cylindrical, with a rounded apex and a truncated base, around 50 x 5 µm large, with up to 3-5 transverse septa.
