Sida (weeds) L.
This genus contains around 150 species of herbaceous plants or shrubs. They are widely distributed, especially in tropical and subtropical regions. A number of species are important agricultural weeds like prickly sida (Sida spinosa) or common sida (S. rhombifolia). These are mainly a problem in warmer parts of the Americas and the Pacific, where they affect crops like cotton, maize or soybeans.
The plants can grow to a height of up to 2 m. Typically, the leaves are unlobed with a serrate margin and covered with hairs. The flowers are often yellowish and have 5 petals.
