Serangium japonicum (predator) Chapin,1940

This is a small ladybird beetle (length of 1.6-2.1 mm) which is found in parts of China and in Japan. It preys mainly on whiteflies, but also feeds on aphids and scale insects. For example, it has been studied as a biological control agent against Bemisia tabaci and the citrus whitefly Dialeurodes citri. The adults have a black dorsal colour and are brownish underneath.

For a taxonomic review of this species see Wang et al. (2011).
