Cercospora sojina Hara 1915 - (frogeye leaf spot of soybean)
The fungus causes a serious foliar disease of soybeans in hot and humid environments. Initially, it forms water-soaked leaf spots, surrounded by a dark purple-brown margin. The centre dries up and eventually falls out leaving holes in the leaves. The spots can merge and lead to leaf blight and defoliation. Yield losses can reach 50%. Using fungicide treated seeds, crop rotation and resistant cultivars are the main management options.
