This ambrosia beetle is common in eastern North America where it infests forest trees like oak, beech or maple. It is also considered a pest of fruit trees. Mainly weakened and dying trees are attacked. M. mali has been recorded from Italy since 2007 (Kirkendall et al., 20018).
