Sphaerulina musiva (Peck) Quaedvlieg 2013
The fungus causes leaf spot and stem canker on poplar. It has been reported in North America since the beginning of the twentieth century and has expanded its range over the years, e.g. it was reported for the first time in 2006 west of the Rocky Mountains in British Columbia.
Stem canker has become an important poplar disease in north-eastern and north-central areas of North America. In susceptible poplar species and varieties it can result in tree mortality, in others (e.g. eastern cottonwood, Populus deltoides) it may only cause a relatively minor leaf spot disease.
Synonyms:
Davidiella populorum
Mycosphaerella populorum
Septoria musiva
