Beet mild yellowing virus (BMYV)
The virus causes a yellowing disease of sugar beet and also infects several Chenopodiaceae. It is wide-spread in Europe and Asia. The apical parts of the leaves become orange-yellow, thickened and brittle. The plants show stunting. BMYV is transmitted efficiently by aphids like Myzus persicae in a circulative and nonpropagative manner (it does not multiply in the aphid). It is closely related to Beet western yellows virus. BMYV forms nonenveloped icosahedral particles, 26 nm in diameter, which contain a 5.7-kb linear positive-stranded RNA encoding six proteins.
