The apple latent spherical virus causes latent infections on apple and has been described from Japan ([[Journal of General Virology (2000) 81, 541-547|Li et al., 2000]]). Various other hosts can be infected experimentally. The particles are isometric (ca. 25nm) with two ssRNAs (6815 and 3384 nt large) and three capsid proteins. The virus has been also used for virus-induced gene silencing (e.g. [[Archives of Virology (2007) 152, 1839-1849|Yaegashi et al., 2007]]).

Assigned virus:
apple latent spherical virus (ALSV)

The apple latent spherical virus causes latent infections on apple trees and has been described from Japan (Li et al., 2000). Various other hosts can be infected experimentally. The particles are isometric (ca. 25nm) with two ssRNAs (6815 and 3384 nt large) and three capsid proteins. The virus has been also used for virus-induced gene silencing (e.g. Yaegashi et al., 2007).
